About the Chauncey Griggs Mansion
Carolyn’s studio is located within the historic Chauncey Griggs Mansion, one of St. Paul’s most iconic Victorian residences on Summit Avenue. Built in 1883 for businessman, Civil War veteran, and Minnesota politician Chauncey Griggs, the four-story mansion has long been part of the city’s cultural fabric. Located within the historic Ramsey Hill neighborhood and supported by the preservation efforts of the Ramsey Hill Association, the area remains known for its remarkable architecture and artistic character. Over the years, the mansion has served not only as a private residence, but also as a creative space for artists and art education, including housing Atelier East, an extension of the renowned Atelier Lack classical art program in the 1980s. Today, its grand architecture, soaring windows, and rich history provide a unique setting for Carolyn’s working studio.
